What is ESL Conversation Lessons?
Hi, I'm Andrew. You'll find here a collection of lesson materials that I have used for my online one-to-one classes during the last few years. I've decided to put them online as they might prove useful for other ESL teachers. Doing this has also helped me to put some order into the cornucopia of material that I have on various flash drives.
The materials are based on newspaper articles, videos, and infographics.
Who's it for?
If you are an online teacher looking to maximise interaction between you and your student, the lessons should provide the opportunity for extensive speaking and listening practice. The texts used cover popular, contemporary topics. They haven't been simplified, so the lessons are most suitable for advanced (C1+) adult students in a general English setting. Ninety-nine per cent of my lessons are one-to-one, so I feel that that's where they work best, but I'm sure they could be adapted to small groups too.
What can I do with them?
Use of the lessons is completely open-ended, but for my part, I wanted to exploit the flipped learning potential that online teaching provides. For weekly lessons, I would email the student the material a week in advance, allowing them the time to process any grammar or vocabulary that they wanted. In doing this, and by using Quizlet's revision flashcards post-lesson, the course gained in continuity - something that's not always easy to achieve with standalone lessons.
